Q:i have a bay window net curtain rail which was supplied with sticky pads that we attached to the upvc window frame. we would like to change this and would like to know how to remove the sticky pads without causing to much damage. many thanks. wendy

A: Peeling the pads off shouldn't cause any damage, but the chances are that some glue will remain. If you can't remove this with detergent and warm water, you may need to use a solvent. Various companies sell PVCu-safe solvent, but it's usually a 'trade-only' product, so you might not be able to get it in stores - you may be able to find a supplier on the internet. If all else fails you can try white spirit, but I can't guarantee this wont cause damage.

Don't use any abrasive products, or scrape too hard, as you may damage the finish of the window.
